Is Electric Skateboarding Safe?

Yes, electric skateboarding can be a safe and enjoyable activity for both adults and children if done correctly.

A dangerous environment is created when you engage in reckless behavior and don’t wear proper safety gear.

Safety Tips And Tricks

Preparation is key to avoiding mishaps on the road.

You are solely responsible for your own safety; no one else is. It’s your responsibility to look after yourself and to be prepared to respond appropriately in various situations.

Here are a few essential safety tips for electric skateboard riders to keep in mind.

Wear A Helmet

It may be obvious, but I’ve seen a lot of people riding their boards without a helmet on.

It only takes a simple slip to inflict long-term brain damage.

But don’t take my word for it…

A staggering 78% of adult cyclists (and 88% of young cyclists) who have suffered head or neck injuries while riding were not wearing helmets.

The risk vs. reward of simply wearing a helmet can help you make up your mind.

Spend five seconds fastening your helmet or risk permanently damaging your brain. Decide what you want.

Wear Padding

Knee, elbow, and wrist padding, when worn in conjunction with a helmet, can help you avoid the more serious consequences of road rash.

Injuries from road rash can last for a long time and cause significant discomfort.

Padding, on the other hand, does more than just keep you from getting road rash; it also protects your joints.

Knees, wrists, elbows, and shoulders are among the first body parts to hit the ground when you fall from a height.

At high speeds, your joints are more likely to dislocate and break.

Padding isn’t foolproof, but not wearing anything at all is far worse.

Lights and Neon Vests

Riding at night is especially hazardous due to the drastic reduction in visibility.

Oncoming traffic may not see you if you don’t have any lights or reflectors.

Purchase lights like the SL-200 Shred Lights that can be attached to the trunk of a skateboard to make it easier to perform tricks. It has both headlights and taillights, and it has six different lighting modes to choose from.

Consider wearing a headlamp at the very least if you don’t do that.

It’s always a good idea to wear some kind of reflector, just to be on the safe side.

Wearing a neon vest or jacket is the best way to stand out. These are worn by police officers at night for a reason. The neon vest will reflect any light that comes into contact with it, allowing anyone nearby to see it clearly.

Slow Down

This advice may come across as overly maternal, but it’s the truth.

Even though I frequently push my electronic boards to the limit, there is a time and place for everything.

Some roads are so dangerous that they are unsuitable for human habitation.

With high speed and simple obstacles such as pebbles, potholes, and rough pavement, you can be launched into space.

Slowing down is a good idea.

Have you ever used an electric skateboard’s brakes before?

It’s not that simple, especially if you’re going at a high rate of speed.

A longer distance must be traveled when breaking on a board. You can’t just slam on the brakes at 20mph and hope for the best!

You’ll take off. You have nothing to stop you from experiencing gravity and speed.

Braking is much safer, easier, and smoother if you’re traveling at a reasonable speed.

Avoid Inclement Weather

Riding a motorcycle in the rain is extremely hazardous.

It’s even worse when you’re riding in the snow.

There are a few things to keep in mind when purchasing a new board.

Driving in the rain versus riding on a misty day are two very distinct experiences.

Even my “waterproof” Ownboard Mini KT succumbed to the corrosive effects of water, resulting in the board’s death. It seemed to me that it could withstand a rainy day.

Even worse, my board broke while I was riding in the rain! (It cost me $80 to fix!

As a general rule, don’t ride your electric skateboard if you wouldn’t ride a motorcycle in inclement weather.

When it rains or snows, you’ll have to contend with dangerously slippery conditions.

To add to the adventure, I’ve attempted to ride in the snow before and suffered a serious crash. Even though I wasn’t going that fast, I landed on my back. Because my injuries were minor, I was able to learn my lesson…

Know The Law/Rules

Now, I’m well aware that there are a slew of absurd laws, but the vast majority of them were enacted to keep people safe.

The rules of the road are exactly the same, regardless of where you are.

This relates to what I said earlier about being careless.

Go ahead and be stupid if you want to, but be prepared to pay a price for your foolishness.

Riding an electric skateboard will be subject to a variety of regulations depending on where you live. Knowing the laws of your state or province is always a good idea.

Even though most major cities prohibit riding on the sidewalks due to the risk of pedestrian collisions, there are some exceptions.

Even in a small town, I doubt that will be an issue…

Watch For Obstacles

Even the tiniest of rocks or ditches can cause you to lose your balance and fall off your board.

To be safe, one must keep an eye out for even the smallest of hazards.

You should drive your board the same way you drive a car.

To be successful in today’s world, you need to be able to process and act on the vast amount of information that is presented to you at any given time, sometimes in mere milliseconds.

What will you do if a car suddenly pulls out in front of you?

Braking or jumping off your board are the only options.

Be ready for anything at all times.

Pay Attention And Avoid Distractions

Unless you’re in a trance, you won’t be able to ride your board. The importance of paying attention cannot be overstated.

It’s true that going for a ride can be both therapeutic and relaxing, but that doesn’t mean that you can relax.

You’re going to get hurt and break your phone screen if you ride your board while checking Facebook and Instagram at the same time!
